  • Into The Land Called....OHIO

In late April, I headed north to visit with my new-found brother, Dan

Dan lives in our ancestral homeland, Ohio, a land of many cities and

    rivers...

These trout at the Ohio Aquaculture Center are about ready for transfer to private ponds and lakes, as well as state rivers and streams. That is, unless a Cajun shows up late one night with a castnet and a flashlight.

I made it to Dan and Emilie's after a two-day drive.

    Emilie, Dan's girlfriend, she's a sweetheart

In the backyard for a cookout

I love this ground covering plant! Want, want, want! It stands up well to foot traffic, and

stays very short regardless. Does anyone know the name, or care to guess? I have no idea.

Henry is Emilie and Dan's Schnauzer. A deadly vicious beastie,

or so he would have you believe.

The first full day there in Tipp City, Dan took me to the Wright-Patterson AFB Aviation Museum

    The museum had both killers.....

    ....and dillers.

The second day was devoted to looking at headstones and old homesteads in

and around Cincinatti. Our granddad Frank met and married Maritta here,

and their folks are all interred locally.

Aaron Cobb's headstone. He was our Granddad's brother, drowned at the age of 17

Great Aunt Jane's home was a family gathering point. Her Mother's middle name, Stebbins, is the one that ties us directly to the colonial days, although we get there other ways as well.

Two of our Grandad's childhood homes.

That night, there was a wine-tasting event put on by the Gyro, a men's club, one of whose members is Dan. The event was a fund-raiser for the Gyros, who exist from one wine-tasting event to the next, barely getting by. But you can help, adopt a Gyro member for pennies a day, and you will be invited to shindigs like this....

Grail is the band's name, gospel and bluegrass is their game

The next day, we headed for the Lake, the lake in question being the one named Erie. Dan and his buds keep their boats in the water for the summer and fall, then store them for the winter.

    Bay Haven Marina, Party Central

Dan's boat, a 27-footer named the Tini 2, or something like that.

That's Don, hogging all the ladies. He's Dan's 'wingman', and a great guy.

The crew, finishing off the barbecue from the wine-tasting event.

I will finish this blog in a day or so. Exciting things happened at the Lake, and you will want to hear about them.
