HOW I SPENT MY WEEK OFF

walkway at Meaher State Park, Mobile Alabama
The NASA facility at Michoud, in eastern New Orleans
I took this picture while standing on my roof Friday morning. On Saturday, Ron and I literally rambled around North Florida.
We first ended up at the Marianna Caverns St Park
A pond at Marianna Caverns State Park. And no, we did not go in the caves. Maybe next time.
I wonder if they had a DADT policy in the Civilian Conservation Corps?
After driving to the Caverns, we took a side trip to meet a good friend of Ron's, non-fiction adventure-writer, Robert Burgess. this is a picture from his Wikipedia entry. Yes, I know someone with a wikipedia entry. Bob looks more like Ernest Hemingway, whom he knew, now than he did in this picture. He was kind enough to let us call on him with no advance warning, and showed us a few of his artifacts, such as a stone fishook, found in a river in Ohio. These days, his typewriter might also count as an artifact.

I didn't realize there was a NASA facility in New Orleans.
One of the things I've been thinking about taking photos of is caves. If I do, I think I'll have to visit Marianna Caverns.
The typewriter seems like a definite artifact to me. lol
Beautiful colors in the roof picture. Such large hands on Burgess!
P.s. That looks like the typewriter I carried around for college (and actually used). It comes with a cover with a handle to make it portable. Ah. Even though it might not be, still, the Underwood days. (I like to type that word, Underwood).
Thanks for sharing!
@C_L_O_G - If you are in the area, Marianna is worth a visit. Then go for a swim at Wakulla Springs State Park. The water there is, as the cajuns say, 'clare, clare'.
@POETIC_ISIS - The man is in his eighties, and he moves like a man in his prime. Gave me hope.
I know what you mean about the colors, I don't roof-climb as a rule. I love trees, but they do inhibit shots of the horizon.
@MelFamy - Thank you for the tip.
Rambling around. That sounds like a good thing to do. I wonder if Burgess is still using the ancient typewriter and look at all the camera equipment in the background! I'm sure he's got many stories to tell. Thanks for sharing your photos - the one from your roof is great. Peace
Thata first shot is wonderful, with the reflection -- and the pelican, too! The Mariana Caverns reminds me of Wakulla Springs -- beautiful countryside!
looks like a wunnerful place to hang out ... of course, i'm in total love with the sunset shot!! your friend could indeed sub for ol' Ernest!! fangs for sharing these great fotoz!
beautiful shots.
Good stuff, Mr. Famy. I used to have a stone typewriter. Then someone developed the steel chisel, and we haven't looked back.
Not an off week , but an on week, your week off.
