The sign on the Kentucky Turnpike said 'Visit Historic Elizabethtown". So I did....

    The Courthouse in Elizabethtown

See the cannonball stuck in the wall in the NE quadrant of the pic? That Civil War relic and...

....this bridge that Lincoln's daddy helped build constitute most of the history, unless you always wondered,"Hey,whatever happened to Monty Hall?"

    Wonder no more

Main Street had a flower and gift shop, a coffeehouse, and the rest were, strike me dead if I am exaggerating by much, all lawyer's offices!

    Image

It really is a pretty town, just watch who you bump into or promise to buy lunch for, legal aid is readily available

Even the alleys look historic, maybe more so

And I resumed my trip south, through Kentucky's rustic countryside....

  • the real reason dinosaurs went extinct.

  • @promisesunshine -  LOL! They were buried in a flood of writs, lawsuits, and liens.

  • Yep, that's E-Town, been there many times. Next time you're passing thru Ky, take a 200 mile detour east on I-64 and Buddly will buy ya a couple of cold brewskis for yer trouble!

  • @buddly47 - Don't be surprised when I pull up in your yard, my friend. Sounds like a good idea.

  • @MelFamy - I'll keep a couple of spare rib-eyes on hand, just in case!

  • I saw your title and thought, there's not much land to the south of Louisiana. Forgot you were up in Ohio.

Kentucky and Tennessee have always seemed so gorgeous to me. I still remember staying in an old motel outside Paducah in 1976 on our way to my sister's wedding. (We had flown to Miami and borrowed a car for the trip to KC.)

  • @Roadkill_Spatula - Yes. I was truly impressed by the scenery in Kentucky, and some of the side roads make for great driving.

  • Cool photos, and I liked the twist at the end. And I'd been wondering for years what had happened to Monty Hall!

  • I think you had a very nice trip with a lot of different adventures.  The Midwest is an OK place to be.  After most of the summer traveling, we were glad to get back although we were very surprised by the drought here.
