NOT AGAIN! ZIMMERMAN WANNA-BE KILLS BLACK TEEN
A shooting that some are comparing to the Trayvon Martin killing has occurred in Jacksonville.
Michael David Dunn, 45, is charged with murder in the death of Jordan Davis, 18,who was in an SUV in a store parking lot that was playing loud music. Dunn asked the guys in the van to turn it down, an argument ensued, and Dunn shot into the van, killing Davis. He claims that he thinks he saw a gun in the van, but none was subsequently found.
The story can be found here
This so-called Stand Your Ground law, that Florida's right-wing, loony-filled legislature passed, has got to be repealed. It isn't that this idiot is covered by the law, the problem is that he and idiots like him THINK that they are covered by the Stand Your Ground defense. The law may not apply in this case, but the following parody I wrote after Trayvon's shooting does:
How many hoodies must I see pass by
before one stops to burgle my pad?
And how can one tell if a lad's okay,
and just running to the store for his Dad?
Yes, how many kids walking outside at night
are really out to do something bad?
The answer, my friend doesn't matter in the end
When on my own ground I do stand.
Just how young does a man have to be
to not be considered a threat?
And since when did having a lousy sense of style
make it right to shoot someone dead?
Yes, and what if your fear of a young black guy
is by sensationalist media fed?
My answer, my friend, is a bullet from my gun
I followed him and shot him with my gun.
Yes, and how many more will die needlessly
Before we fix this law finally?
How many more Mothers will have to see
their dead sons each night on TV?
Until it's changed, I feel perfectly free
to shoot you for looking cross-eyed at me
You can thank the NRA for this insanity,
now go out and kill someone legally.

I found it troubling people came to Zimmerman's defense as a knee jerk reaction. Sad stuff.
@tendollar4ways - Right, showing pictures of Trayvon in gangsta garb, as if that had anything to do with the events the night of his murder
there was one that happened in Wisconsin just a few days after Trayon Martin. It fell under some law called Castle Doctrine when the 20 year old kid ran onto the guy's lawn after a party had been broken up, not by the police but by an angry neighbor who had called the police and was pissed because the police couldn't do anything so they were going to wait until morning to cite the home owner for disturbing the peace.
I'm even happier I'm Canadian.
@Bricker59 - Michael Moore made the point that Canadians have as many guns per capita as Americans without the high murder rate. You guys are too mellow, except around hockey season.
Stand Your Ground is a very ambiguous law; if it confounds the SAO, you know it's controversial! We shall agree to diasagree on the NRA.... You know that deep down you've got a strong admiration for Charlton Heston. I can't resist ribbin you, G.
(I know how much you love emoticons, too!!)

We in Canada don't used guns and carry them around unlike in the US. So when it comes to something like this no one gets killed because most people don't have guns with them. Its about time, NRA was held accountable for all this.
@Kellsbella - I have a deep admiration for Charlton Heston. I also loved his movies, those that I saw.
I don't own any firearms. My friends think I need one for protection. I am 79, experienced some petty crimes---things stolen. I would not want to shoot someone just because he/she was stealing my stuff. Life is too precious and redemption is possible for all.
I am sorry to hear about this incident. We still have problems with gangs who have shot from cars indiscriminately and killed or wounded children, and we live in a small town. We have not had any stand your gournd shootings as far as I know, but I live in California.
@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex - He was a straight-up fella. I really dug his honesty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ju4Gla2odw
@Kellsbella - Agreed. Good for you. I always fire eight shots into a car when their music is too loud.
@Kellsbella - I wrote this when it became obvious that Mr. Heston was about to expire..http://melfamy.xanga.com/649833449/item/
I am not anti-NRA; they do many good things. The 2nd is safe with them around. Hell, it's wrapped in a cocoon of kevlar. But their struggle to protect our right to carry fully automatic weapons to political rallies and football games is disturbing. Well, that's what it boils down too.
@we_deny_everything - I can't know that case as I don't have all of the evidence. Typically, I find that blaring opera music scares people off much faster than any gun.
@MelFamy - Isn't it a bit of a misnomer, though? I know that our AK doesn't shoot multiple rounds. Then again, I suppose you could rig it to do so...... Now I'm thinking on the Swiss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nf1OgV449g
